About Colleen

Colleen DeGennaro is a New York City-based performer. Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, Colleen trained classically in Voice for over a decade before earning dual Bachelor’s degrees in English and Musical Theatre from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. She continued her training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, taking a focused approach towards craftwork in contemporary, classical, and devised theatre.

Colleen performed internationally at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2023 and 2024, where she cultivated a deep love of new play development. She is particularly interested in highly collaborative theatre that fosters real connection between audience and artist, especially through comedy and absurdism.

Outside of the arts, Colleen has worked professionally as a preschool teacher — an experience she credits as formative in developing her understanding of the human condition (and her patience). Her passions include murder mystery novels, the New York Times Crossword, and making hyper-specific playlists that fit each of her moods.

Artistry & Humanity

I am a creator who is motivated by exploring concepts of human dignity and the inherent value of being alive. As an artist, I hope to convey an understanding for the human condition that others can relate to and see themselves in, fostering connection among both my audience and the greater community. My goals for growth and development as an artist include building a network of fellow, likeminded creators who can assist me in becoming not only a better artist, but also a better person. I will establish this network by working collaboratively on projects that align with my mission. In terms of audience, I hope to reach all kinds of people, especially those who may think differently than I do. Art is a way to build bridges, and I hope that my work impacts people to see the world through a wider lens. Through my work, I aspire to encourage people to open their minds and behave in ways that will encourage connections and growth rather than diminish them.

IN THE PRESS

"As a young performer, I found the community aspect of Fringe very exciting...everyone is on a level playing field, and you are reliant on people who are there putting on their own shows to support you. And they need you to support them, too."
